Museum of New Art Portsmouth MONA Celebrates it's First Anniversary with Site Inspired New Work by Judy Pfaff

Portsmouth, NH—The Museum of New Art - Portsmouth (MONA) celebrates its first anniversary with site inspired new work by Judy Pfaff. A MacArthur Foundation Genius Award recipient, Pfaff is known for large scale complex sculpture which she creates in situ, responding intuitively and with technical agility to the particularities of each space. MONA, the first floor of the recently renovated 1905 YMCA building on Congress Street in Portsmouth, NH (also home to Jimmy's Jazz and Blues Club), is an atypical contemporary art space. It is an honor that Judy Pfaff has selected MONA as the venue for exploration of a new medium in her vast material palette: ceramics.

The exhibit opens to the public on September 20, 2022 with the artist at 5:30 pm.

Each of the three primary MONA galleries will hold several related works, each providing a multi-directional theater of vignettes. A smaller gallery will display drawings and the library will have prints. Visitors may find a variety of natural references among Judy's transformed found objects. MONA will invite commentary and will host several programs engaging community partners including local makerspaces and the Seascoast Science Center.
